Got bored with Arduino/AVR and would like to get your hands on FPGA? Get started with FPGA/NIOS system is super easy with RECON-1 platform that has been tested and demonstrated on our CIV10 development kit.
This board is super simple with lots of spare pins which you can use to adapt to your projects. It has 10K LUT 40kB on chip RAM and 16Mbit Flash and almost 60+ spare pins.
Simple project that implements a frequency counter would help you get started quickly. Checkout the example here: http://www.github.com/jefflieu/recon. The recon-1 flavor implements the non-volatile memory using external flash (whereas recon-0 implements using on-chip Flash which only is available in MAX10 devices).
